Volunteer Board

Are you looking for a way to get more involved in the Parkview community? The PTO has several open Board positions for the 2023-2024 school year, and we’d love you join us! The Board guides fundraising efforts, allocates funds, plans and hosts events and programs, and helps foster the school community. It’s a great way to meet other Parkview families while making a positive impact on Parkview students and the broader community! Find a list of the current PTO Board Members on our About page.

Meetings

The Board meets monthly during the school year, typically the first Monday of each month from 5:30-7:30pm. Board members should also attend the monthly General Meetings, typically the second Tuesday of each month from 6:30-7:30 pm.

Can’t commit to monthly meetings? Consider one of our open Coordinator positions, or join our Volunteer Pool. See our Volunteer page for more information.

Elections

Board positions are a two-year commitment. The President, Secretary, VP of Enrichment and VP of Community Engagement are elected in odd years. The Treasurer, VP of Fundraising and VP of Communications are elected in even years. If there is a vacancy on a Board seat in a non-election year, the Board may appoint and approve a replacement with a 2/3rds vote. The replacement will serve the remainder of the vacated term. See our Bylaws on our Public Records page for more information.

VOLUNTEER BOARD JOB DESCRIPTIONS AND TIME COMMITMENTS

President

Approximate time commitment is 5-10 hours/month, including meetings.

The President helps set the goals and direction for the PTO by working closely with the principal and administrative staff to ensure PTO goals are in line with the school’s. The President oversees and coordinates with the Board to schedule board meetings, general meetings, fundraisers and other events.

Treasurer and jr. treasurer

Approximate time commitment is 5-10 hours/month, including meetings. Expect to commit more time ahead of large events.

The Treasurer is responsible for maintaining and managing the PTO bank accounts and budget., process reimbursement requests, gather yearly tax information for our accountant, and working with the Board on Budget requests.

The Jr. Treasurer is a Board appointed, non-voting, shadow position to the current Treasurer. The Junior Treasurer will run for election for the Treasurer role in the next election.

SecretarY

Approximate time commitment is 5-6 hours/month, including meetings.

The Secretary attends the Board and General PTO meetings, taking minutes which summarize Board discussions and documents decisions. The Secretary is also responsible for distributing meeting minutes to Board members, posting to the Public Documents section of the Parkview website, and organizing records in the PTO Google Drive.

VP of Communications

Approximate time commitment is 5-10 hours/month, including meetings.

The VP of Communication works closely with other Board members to advertise events and news via the Parkview Website, Newsletter, and our Facebook Group. The VP of Communications is also responsible for organizing the Student Directory and maintaining family distribution email groups.

VP of Community Engagement

VP of Enrichment

Approximate time commitment is 5-6 hours/month, including meetings. Expect to commit 10+ hours/month ahead of After School Enrichment enrollment.

The VP of Enrichment works to coordinate a variety of activities designed to complement and add to the school day. The largest project to coordinate is After School Enrichment — the VP of Enrichment works closely with the Enrichment coordinator to find instructors and plan a balanced list of offerings for students of all ages. Other events include the Science Fair, Downtown Art Walk, Whole Child, Common Threads School Garden and Assemblies. Learn more on our Enrichment and Events pages.

VP of Fundraising

Approximate time commitment is 5-6 hours/month, including meetings. Expect to commit 10+ hours/month ahead of our largest fundraising events.

Our largest fundraisers are the Jog-a-thon! in the Fall, and the Family Fun + Auction Night in the Spring — these events typically have an event coordinator and committee, but expect a larger time commitment in September/October and April/May ahead of these events.
